Arsenal are in talks to sign William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon, according to Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri.

The north London side have been linked with a host of players this summer but have so far only concluded deals to sign left-back Sead Kolasinac and striker Alexandre Lacazette.

Arsene Wenger is believed to be on the lookout for a number of other signings as he prepares for the 2017-18 season.

Now, Italian journalist Palmeri has taken to Twitter to claim that Arsenal are keen on signing 25-year-old defensive midfielder Carvalho from Lisbon.

Palmeri wrote on Twitter: “Arsenal are in talks with Sporting for William Carvalho.”

Arsenal will be hoping to challenge for the Premier League title next season after the Gunners finished fifth in the table last term.

The north London side have not won the Premier League since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 season.

However, the Gunners did end last season on a high by beating Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
