Arsenal have come to the realisation that Alexis Sanchez wants to leave the north London club this summer, according to journalist John Cross.

The Chile international’s future has been a source of relentless debate in the summer transfer window but a move has failed to materialise for the 28-year-old so far.

Sanchez has less than 12 months remaining on his current contract to trigger talk of the South American potentially leaving on a free transfer next summer.

The Gunners have already signed Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette in a club-record £52m deal in the summer transfer window.

Sanchez has already been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester City despite Arsenal’s reluctance to sell to a rival.

The South American has also been mooted with completing a switch to Paris Saint-Germain.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live’s Football Daily podcast, Daily Mirror reporter Cross suggested that Sanchez will leave Arsenal before the close of the summer transfer window.

“There is a realisation within the club that he wants to go. He wants to go,” Cross said.

“It is a deal that might go to the wire or the third week of August, with Man City and PSG still in the frame.”

Arsenal signed Sanchez in a £35m deal from La Liga giants Barcelona last summer.

The Gunners have already signed Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac and Lyon striker Lacazette this summer.
