Jamie Redknapp doesn’t expect Arsenal to end their long wait to win the Premier League title next season.

The Gunners finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a place in the Champions League.

Instead, Arsenal face the prospect of a season in Europe’s second tier competition as Arsene Wenger looks to emulate Manchester United and win the Europa League.

The Gunners boss has already signed Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac in a free transfer from Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04 to strengthen his defensive options.

Arsenal spent a club-record £52m fee on Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette last week to finally bring in a centre-forward with proven European pedigree.

However, former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Redknapp still doesn’t expect Arsenal to challenge for the Premier League title despite their two summer additions.

“Arsenal have got very good players and finished the season very well,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.

“The Europa League is obviously a distraction when the league is so wide open. In the last two seasons the title winners haven’t had any European football and that makes a big difference.

Redknapp added: “The Europa League will make it difficult for Arsenal but they will still be strong this season. They’ve added Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette, but can they now keep their best players?”

Arsenal won the FA Cup for the third time in four seasons in May after the Gunners were 2-1 winners against Premier League champions Chelsea at Wembley.

The Gunners haven’t won the Premier League title since Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira inspired Arsenal to an unbeaten season.
