Arsenal won’t break transfer record for a second time to sign 21-year-old star – report
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger won't sanction a £60m transfer fee to sign Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar, according to reports in England
Arsene Wenger is reluctant to break Arsenal’s record transfer fee for the second time this summer to sign Thomas Lemar from AS Monaco, according to reports in England.
The Evening Standard is reporting that the Gunners boss has made signing Lemar his priority since bringing in France striker Alexandre Lacazette in a £52m deal from Lyon earlier this month.
The same article states that Arsenal have been quoted £60m to sign the 21-year-old attacker this summer as AS Monaco look to avoid selling another key player.
Indeed, the Ligue 1 champions have already sold Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy to Manchester City this summer, while Chelsea recruited defensive midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko from the French champions.
Monaco’s teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe is now being linked with a world-record move to La Liga giants Real Madrid which would leave Monaco asset-stripped ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.
Arsenal signed Lacazette after Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac completed a free transfer from Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04 last month.
The Gunners finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season but did end the season on a high after winning the FA Cup.
