Insider claims Arsenal won’t sign 21-year-old if Alexis Sanchez stays
Reporter Julien Laurens says Arsenal will only sign Thomas Lemar from Monaco if Alexis Sanchez leaves this summer
Arsenal won’t sign Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar if Alexis Sanchez remains at the north London club, according to Julien Laurens.
The Gunners have reportedly failed with a £50m offer to sign the France international from the Ligue 1 champions in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal are facing a battle to keep their top goal-scorer Alexis Sanchez after failing to agree a new deal with the 28-year-old forward.
Sanchez has less than 12 months remaining on his current contract, prompting reports of a potential move to Chelsea or Manchester City this summer.
ESPN FC reporter Laurens doesn’t expect Arsenal to complete a deal to sign Lemar unless Sanchez finally leaves the Emirates Stadium.
“I am still struggling to see them signing Lemar if Alexis stays,” Laurens told ESPN FC.
“He will cost them a lot of money if Monaco want to sell them. I don’t think you can play Ozil, Alexis and Lemar as well as a striker.”
Sanchez scored 24 times in 37 games in the Premier League last season but Arsenal finished in fifth place in the table.
Arsene Wenger has signed Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac from Bundesliga giants Schalke 04 in a free transfer earlier this summer.
Arsenal have also signed Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette in a club-record deal earlier this month.
