Chelsea are set to step up their attempts to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal next week, according to reports in the British media.

Sky Sports is reporting that the Blues are keen to bring the 23-year-old midfielder to Stamford Bridge, with Oxlade-Chamberlain having less than a year left to run on his current contract.

The same report states that after having tied up the signing of Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid, Oxlade-Chamberlain is now in Chelsea’s “sights” as they look to further bolster their squad.

The story claims that both Liverpool and Manchester City are both interested in the midfielder this summer.

Arsene Wenger recently said that he is 100 per cent convinced that Oxlade-Chamberlain will be staying at The Emirates this summer, but the Sky Sports report claims that the midfielder has told the Gunners that he will not sign the contract extension currently on offer.

The same story says that Chelsea plan to open talks with Arsenal about a move for Oxlade-Chamberlain within 48 hours of the Gunners returning from their pre-season tour on Sunday.
