Gary Neville sends message to Chelsea fans about Antonio Conte
Gary Neville suggests Chelsea should have had multiple striker targets including Romelu Lukaku this summer
Gary Neville has taken to social media to suggest that Antonio Conte should not be angry about Chelsea’s failure to sign Romelu Lukaku this summer.
The Blues had been heavily linked with a bid to bring the Belgian striker back to Stamford Bridge this summer but a move did not materialise.
And Manchester United confirmed on Saturday morning that they had agreed a fee with Everton to bring Lukaku to Old Trafford this summer.
The Belgian was thought to be one of Chelsea’s top targets this summer, but it seems that the Blues will now have to look elsewhere to bolster their striking options.
However, former Manchester United striker Neville feels that Conte should not be annoyed about Chelsea’s failure to land Lukaku because the Blues should have had multiple striker targets this summer.
Neville tweeted on Saturday morning: “Why would he [Conte] throw his toys out of the pram over a player choice? Maybe he shouldn’t have text Costa till the Lukaku deal was done.
“No coach or club should ever have their eggs in one basket. If Madrid, Barca, United, Bayern, City come in then you may always lose him!”
Chelsea are thought to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as the Blues prepare for a return to the Champions League in Conte’s second campaign in charge at Stamford Bridge.
