Antonio Conte has revealed that he came close to quitting Chelsea during the summer.

The Italian manager enjoyed a sparkling debut campaign in England following his appointment as the Blues’ new manager last summer.

Conte led Chelsea to the Premier League title in his first season in charge at the west London club.

However, despite all of Chelsea’s success last season, Conte has revealed that he was giving serious consideration to his future at Stamford Bridge this summer because of being so far away from his family last term.

Conte eventually opted to stay at Stamford Bridge for at least one more season and he signed a new contract with the Blues earlier this month, but it is still due to expire in the summer of 2019.

And the Italian manager has lifted the lid on how he spent much of his summer holidays thinking about what to do with regards to his future.

Conte is quoted as saying by the Sun: “I spoke with the club and we found the right view about the future. I decided with the club to continue our path.

“For sure, I enjoyed the season in England and with Chelsea.

“But I must be honest, it was very tough. It was a lot for me and for my family.

“It wasn’t easy for me. Sometimes when you win you think everything is easy, but it wasn’t.”

Chelsea missed out on the chance to win a domestic double last season when they ended up losing to Arsenal in the FA Cup final.
