Cesar Azpilicueta is convinced that Alvaro Morata will be a big hit at Chelsea next season
Cesar Azpilicueta is convinced that Alvaro Morata will be a big hit at Chelsea next season.
The Spanish forward finally completed his move to Stamford Bridge on Friday when he signed a five-year contract with the Blues following his move from Real Madrid.
Morata was heavily linked with both Manchester United and Chelsea this summer but he ended up joining the west London side after the Red Devils signed Romelu Lukaku from Everton.
The 24-year-old will be expected to lead the line for the Blues next season, with Diego Costa widely expected to leave the club this summer.
Morata struggled for playing time at Real Madrid last season but Azpilicueta, who knows the striker well from his time with the Spanish national team, is convinced that he will be a top player for Chelsea.
Azpilicueta is quoted as saying by the Daily Star: “I know him as a team-mate in the national team and I know he is a very good addition for the club.
“It’s his first experience in the Premier League but he played in Italy, he played for Real Madrid, living with high pressure his whole life as a striker.
“He scored a lot of goals for the national team and in big competitions.
“He’s going to bring his qualities and he can do very well.
“He knows the manager. He knows the way we play. He will adapt quick and I’m sure he will adapt and score many goals.”
Chelsea are looking to defend their Premier League title in Antonio Conte’s second season in charge at the club.
The Blues will also be aiming to make their mark on the Champions League as they prepare for a return to Europe’s elite club competition.
