Antonio Conte sends message to Chelsea supporters about new signing
The Chelsea manager admits Alvaro Morata is still working on his physical condition following a big-money move to the Premier League champions
Antonio Conte has admitted that Alvaro Morata still has to work on improving his phsyical condition after linking up with the Chelsea squad.
The Spain international moved to the Premier League champions in a £58m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid earlier in the summer transfer window.
Chelsea were initially thought to be interested in re-signing Romelu Lukaku before Manchester United beat the English champions to the striker’s signature.
Morata will be tasked with filling Diego Costa’s void in the Chelsea team after the controversial striker was told that he is free to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
However, Chelsea boss Conte is hoping to see an improvement from Morata in the coming weeks ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.
“Morata is having training with us and for sure he has to improve a lot his physical condition to go quickly to the idea of our football,” Conte told his media conference on Saturday.
“But he is working very well and today he tried to do his best but for sure he has to improve.”
Morata scored 15 goals in 26 appearances in La Liga last season as Real Madrid won the Spanish top-flight crown ahead of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
Chelsea have also signed Manchester City reserve goalkeeper Willy Caballero, AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger and AS Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko this summer.
The Blues won the Premier League title with two games to spare last season but lost 2-1 to Arsenal in the FA Cup final.
