Antonio Conte has hailed Cesc Fabregas as a great example for his Chelsea team-mates.

The Spain international appeared to be facing an uncertain future at the west London club following Conte’s appointment last summer.

Fabregas struggled to secure a spot in the Italian’s starting line-up as Conte preferred N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic in midfield.

However, the 30-year-old fought his way back into first-team contention in the second half of the 2016-17 season.

Indeed, Fabregas’ experience proved invaluable as the former Arsenal captain helped Chelsea to get over the line in the Premier League title race.

The ex-Barcelona star ended up with five goals and 12 assists in 13 starts and 16 substitute appearances in the top-flight campaign.

Chelsea manager Conte spoke in glowing terms about Fabregas and challenged the Spanish midfielder to maintain his work ethic into the 2017-18 season.

“He is a really good player who can play in this position in midfield, but he could also play number 10,” Conte is quoted as saying by FourFourTwo.

“He is a great example to others with his commitment and his behaviour every day during training sessions. He must continue this way because he is working well for us.

“I think Cesc has improved a lot from when I arrived at Chelsea, from his start and up to now, he has improved a lot.”

Fabregas moved to Chelsea in a £27m deal from La Liga giants Barcelona in the 2014 summer transfer window under Jose Mourinho.

The Spanish playmaker has won two Premier League titles and the EFL Cup with the west London club.
