Antonio Conte confirms Chelsea tried to sign 27-year-old Premier League star
Antonio Conte reveals that Chelsea tried to sign Kyle Walker from Tottenham before the full-back ended up at Manchester City
Antonio Conte has admitted that Chelsea tried to sign Kyle Walker from Tottenham before the full-back ended up at Manchester City this summer.
The England defender ended up signing for Manchester City in a £50m deal earlier this month in a move with a fee which many have questioned.
Chelsea are thought to be on the lookout for reinforcements at full-back as Conte prepares for his second season in charge at the club and the Italian manager has now confirmed that the Blues made a move to try and sign Walker this summer.
However, they ended up losing out to Manchester City, who were willing to splash a record fee for a defender.
Conte is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail: “Every player is expensive.
“You go to buy a right back, a left back or a central defender and he is expensive.
“If you want Kyle Walker, you know Walker is expensive. We tried to buy Walker. It is very difficult for the teams that need to improve their squads.”
Chelsea are still believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as Conte prepares his team for a return to the Champions League next season.
The west London side finished top of the table but missed out on the FA Cup when they were beaten by Arsenal in the final.
