Alan Smith believes that Chelsea will be the favourites to win the Premier League title once again next season.

The Blues were the Premier League’s top performing team last term as they won a record 30 games on their way towards winning the title in Antonio Conte’s first campaign at the club.

Chelsea will be aiming to retain their title next season while also maintaining a challenge in the Champions League following their return to Europe’s elite club competition.

And former Arsenal star Smith believes that the Blues will be the team to beat next season.

Speaking in an interview with talkSPORT, Smith said: “They are the team to beat (in the league) because they won it comfortably didn’t they?

“There was a time a few weeks back where I thought it had seemed to have gone a bit quiet.

“With Diego Costa they relied so heavily on him to lead the line.

“(I thought) how are they going to replace him? Conte didn’t want him but in Morata I think they’ve bought well.”

Chelsea have won the Premier League for two of the last three seasons.

The west London side, however, missed out on the chance to win a domestic double last term when they were beaten 2-1 by Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

Conte was brought in as Chelsea’s new manager last summer following the sacking of Jose Mourinho back in December 2011.
