Joe Cole is backing Alvaro Morata to be a big hit at Chelsea next season.

The Spanish forward became Chelsea fourth signing of the summer earlier this month when he penned a five-year contract with the west London side following his move from Real Madrid.

Morata was heavily linked with a switch to Manchester United for much of the summer before his transfer to Chelsea was confirmed earlier this month.

The 24-year-old will be hoping to help Chelsea retain their Premier League title next season and also mount a challenge for the Champions League.

And former Chelsea star Cole feels that Morata will prove to be a brilliant addition to the Blues squad.

Speaking in an interview with Chelsea’s website, Cole said: “I think he’s a really good signing for Chelsea.

“He’s obviously one of the best in the world. He impresses me every time he plays.

“People keep saying he’s an old-fashioned English centre-forward, but I don’t remember too many of them with the skill, power, pace and technical ability of Morata.”

Chelsea missed out on the chance to win a domestic double last season when they were beaten 2-1 by Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

The west London side are preparing for a return to the Champions League after their impressive title triumph last term.
