Antonio Conte has warned Chelsea fans that the Blues may struggle to compete in the Champions League next season.

The west London side are preparing to make a return to Europe’s elite club competition after the Italian manager led the Blues to Premier League title glory last season.

Conte enjoyed a very successful first season at Chelsea following his appointment last summer as he guided the Blues to Premier League glory for the second time in three seasons.

It was in stark contrast to their struggle in the season before, when they ended up 10th in the Premier League table.

Chelsea are now preparing to try to defend their title and also mount a challenge for the Champions League next season.

However, Conte has warned Blues fans not to get their hopes up too much about the west London side’s Champions League chances next season.

Conte is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard: “I am excited to play in the Champions League with Chelsea, but I know we have a lot of road ahead before we can compete to try to win the Champions League.

“We are trying to rebuild a situation and it’s not easy. You need a bit of time to create a structure and to build every season and then to go to fight.”

Chelsea have signed four players so far this summer – Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata.
