New Chelsea signing sends message to Antonio Conte
Antonio Rudiger reveals that Antonio Conte played a key role in convincing him to sign for Chelsea this summer
Antonio Rudiger has revealed the key part Antonio Conte played in convincing him to sign for Chelsea this summer.
The defender joined the Blues as the club’s second signing of the summer on Sunday after he was heavily linked with a move to west London from Roma.
Conte moved to bolster his defensive options after he saw both John Terry and Nathan Ake leave the club this summer.
The Blues are now preparing for their second season under Conte after he led them to the Premier League title in his first campaign at the club.
The west London side are also set for a return to the Champions League next season as they look to challenge for trophies on four fronts.
And the Germany international has lifted the lid on how Conte played a key role in convincing him to put pen to paper on a contract with the west London club.
Rudiger told Chelsea’s website: “I’ve only had a chance to speak to him on the phone but I’m looking forward to meeting him and all of my new team-mates. Everything will be new and hopefully I can adjust quickly.
“I just want to help the team become even stronger. I hope to learn a lot from Antonio Conte, who is a great coach, and so many talented team-mates.
“Obviously it would also be great if I could lift a trophy at the end of the season.”
Chelsea won the title last season but came up short in the FA Cup final when they were beaten 2-1 by Arsenal at Wembley back in May.
