Carlo Ancelotti believes that Chelsea will be one of the main contenders for the Champions League title next season.

The Blues enjoyed the luxury of a season without European football last term as they were able to focus solely on domestic affairs in Antonio Conte’s first campaign in charge at the club.

Conte led the west London side to the Premier League title in his first campaign in charge at Stamford Bridge as they secured their return to Europe’s elite club competition for next season.

The Italian manager will be hoping to do what he can to help Chelsea mount a challenge for the Champions League title next season.

And former Blues boss Ancelotti reckons that Chelsea will be one of the top teams fighting for the Champions League trophy next term.

Ancelotti is quoted as saying by Metro: “Chelsea will be very competitive in the Champions League. The team is better.

“Last year was a fantastic year for Chelsea and Antonio [Conte]. He was able to change the mentality of the team and the style of play and for this reason they will be competitive.

“Can they win it? I don’t know — I hope not.”

Chelsea missed out on the chance to win a domestic double last season when they were beaten 2-1 by Arsenal in the FA Cup final back in May at Wembley.
