Defender sends message to Antonio Conte about Chelsea signings
Gary Cahill backs Chelsea's spending in the summer transfer market as they prepare for next season
Gary Cahill has backed Chelsea’s spending in the summer transfer window as the Blues prepare for their second season under Antonio Conte.
After a relatively slow start to the window, the Blues have ramped up their recruitment drive and have so far brought in Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata.
However, despite having already brought in four new players, Chelsea are still thought to be on the lookout for a number of new signings as Conte gears up for his second season at the club.
And Chelsea defender Cahill believes that it is crucial that the west London club spend big so that they can keep up with their rivals next season.
Cahill is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail: “It’s a positive statement, a positive move.
“You have to compete because a lot of teams are making big signings.
“The Premier League is the place to be and people want to come over and play. We have to keep the squad strong but signing big players like that gives us a boost as well.”
Chelsea won the Premier League in Conte’s first campaign in charge last term as they enjoyed the luxury of a season without European football.
The west London side are set to return to return to the Champions League next season as they look to compete for trophies on four fronts.
