Chelsea are closing in on a £65m deal to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Blues are now in “pole position” to sign the Gabon international, after having missed out on Romelu Lukaku and struggling to land Alvaro Morata.
The same article states that Chelsea boss Antonio Conte wants to offload striker Diego Costa this summer as he prepares for his second season in charge at the west London club.
The story also claims that Chelsea are “confident” of beating off competition from Liverpool to land the 28-year-old Aubameyang, who scored 40 goals in all competitions last season.
Chelsea are thought to be on the lookout for a handful of quality players this summer as Conte prepares his team for a return to the Champions League next season.
The west London side won the Premier League in the Italian manager’s first campaign in charge last term.
However, they missed out on the FA Cup title when they were beaten 2-1 by Arsenal in the final back in May.
