Chelsea are taking concrete steps to sign Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, according to reports in Italy.
GianlucaDiMarzio.com is reporting that the Premier League champions have wasted no time switching their focus to Morata after Manchester United beat Chelsea to a deal to sign Everton striker Romelu Lukaku.
The same article states that the Blues have already contacted Real Madrid about the possibility of signing the 24-year-old centre-forward this summer, with Diego Costa tipped to leave Chelsea before the 2017-18 season starts.
According to the story, Conte pushed to sign Morata during his spell in charge at Juventus, and the Serie A champions concluded a deal just days after the coach stood down as the club’s manager to take over the Italian national team.
The Spanish forward impressed during his two-season stay in Turin and Morata earned a £29m move back to Real Madrid last summer.
However, manager Zinedine Zidane used the striker sparingly as Morata scored 15 times in 26 appearances in La Liga.
Indeed, the Chelsea target featured in 25 minutes of knockout football in the Champions League as Real Madrid won the competition for a 12th time.
