New Chelsea signing reveals his dream to follow in Didier Drogba’s footsteps
Alvaro Morata is excited to follow in the footsteps of his idols Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres at Chelsea
Alvaro Morata has admitted that it is a dream to replicate the success of former Chelsea No9s Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres.
The Spain international completed a reported £58m move to the Premier League champions from La Liga giants Real Madrid last week after months of speculation.
Morata has been signed to improve Chelsea’s attacking options after Conte told Diego Costa that he is free to leave the west London side this summer.
The 24-year-old centre-forward will be tasked with leading the Chelsea attack ahead of a return to the Champions League next season.
Chelsea confirmed that Morata will wear the number nine shirt to follow in the footsteps of Blues legend Drogba and Champions League winner Torres.
Speaking to Chelsea’s website about his desire to sample Premier League football, Morata spoke of his admiration for Drogba and Torres.
“When I was little I watched with my dad and it is incredible, a lot of goals and fast matches and I really want to play here,” Morata told Chelsea’s website.
“When I was little I saw Didier Drogba, Andriy Shevchencko, Fernando Torres and thought probably in a few years I will take this place, and now it is the dream to take the Chelsea number 9 shirt.
“I can’t wait to play at Stamford Bridge and in the Premier League.”
Chelsea have signed four players in the summer transfer window so far as Conte looks to build on an impressive first season in the Premier League.
The Blues have recruited goalkeeper Willy Caballero, AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger and Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.
