Antonio Conte would really like to add more depth to his Chelsea squad at wing-back and defensive midfield this summer, according to Gabriele Marcotti.

The Premier League champions initially made a frustrating start to the summer transfer window after failing to get any deals over the line in the opening weeks.

Indeed, Manchester United even managed to beat the Blues to the signing of their former striker Romelu Lukaku in a £75m deal from Everton earlier this month.

Chelsea have enjoyed some success in recent weeks after recruiting Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero, AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger, Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata and AS Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Speaking to ESPN FC about what other signings Conte is desperate to make before the start of the new season, expert Marcotti highlighted wing-back and defensive midfield as two key areas for the Blues boss.

“They have their centre-forwards,” Marcotti said. “He’d like to pick up one option at wing back. He loves Alex Sandro.

“He would like more depth in midfield because we’re assuming Costa and Matic are going this summer.”

Chelsea won the Premier League title with two games to spare in Conte’s first season in charge of the west London club.

The Blues lost 2-1 to bitter rivals Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
