Steve Nicol rules out £100m Chelsea transfer deal happening this summer
The Liverpool legend doesn't expect Barcelona to sign Chelsea star Eden Hazard in the summer transfer window
Steve Nicol has ruled out Eden Hazard moving to Barcelona from Chelsea this summer.
The Belgium international is currently recovering from an ankle injury that the Chelsea number 10 suffered during the international break at the end of the 2016-17 season.
Hazard played a vital role in Chelsea winning the Premier League title in their first season under Antonio Conte after the Belgian winger scored 16 times and made five assists in 36 Premier League games.
The 26-year-old has been regularly linked with a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid over the past couple of seasons but los Blancos are thought to be tracking AS Monaco teenager Kylian Mbappe.
However, Real Madrid’s bitter rivals Barcelona have emerged as contenders to sign the Chelsea star given the continuing uncertainty surrounding Brazil international Neymar at Camp Nou.
But former Liverpool defender Nicol explained why Barcelona would be crazy to spend a world-record fee on the Chelsea star given his current injury status.
“Not a chance,” Nicol told ESPN FC on Friday afternoon when asked if Hazard could leave Chelsea to sign for Barcelona.
Nicol added: “If I am the owner of Barcelona and my manager asked me for £100m to buy a player standing on one leg, I’d say no.
“Until he proves his fitness, no-one is spending £100m on him.”
Chelsea won the Premier League title with two games to spare last season after finishing seven points clear of closest rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
