Ex-defender tells Chelsea fans not to worry about Eden Hazard transfer
Steve Nicol reassures Chelsea supporters that no top club will take a risk on injured Eden Hazard this summer
Steve Nicol doesn’t believe there is any chance a top European club will gamble on Eden Hazard given the Chelsea star’s current injury problem.
The Belgium international has been regularly linked with a switch to Real Madrid over the past couple of seasons but a move has failed to materialise.
Indeed, Real Madrid appear to be occupied with their pursuit of AS Monaco teenager Kylian Mbappe in the current transfer window.
La Liga giants Barcelona are thought to be interested in a move to sign the Belgium international this summer as a potential replacement for Neymar, who is being linked with Paris Saint-Germain.
However, Nicol moved to reassure Chelsea supporters that top clubs won’t consider taking a gamble on Hazard with the 26-year-old sidelined with an ankle injury.
“Antonio Conte should be happy in the knowledge that nobody is buying a player who is still injured,” Nicol told ESPN FC on Friday afternoon.
Hazard broke his ankle during international duty at the end of the 2016-17 season.
The Chelsea number 10 scored 16 times and made five assists in 36 appearances in the Premier League last season to help Antonio Conte lift the title in his first season in charge.
