Chelsea matched Manchester United’s £75m offer for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku at the final hour, according to Kaveh Solhekol.

The Sky Sports News reporter has taken to Twitter to shed light on Lukaku’s situation after two of England’s biggest clubs went head-to-head to sign the 24-year-old striker.

The Belgium international was thought to be on the brink of moving to the Red Devils after Lukaku trained with Manchester United’s record signing Paul Pogba in Los Angeles last week.

Chelsea were rumoured to be leading the race to sign Lukaku with Manchester United looking at Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata in the summer transfer window.

However, Manchester United were reported to have stolen a march on their rivals in the race to sign Lukaku late last week.

And Manchester United finally confirmed on Saturday morning that they had agreed a deal to sign Lukaku from Everton.

But that was not before Chelsea made a last-ditch attempt to bring the forward back to Stamford Bridge, according to Solhekol.

Solhekol wrote on Twitter: “Chelsea have matched Manchester United’s £75m bid for Romelu Lukaku. Up to him to decide where he wants to go now.”

Lukaku scored 25 times in 36 games in the Premier League last season to help Everton to finish in seventh place in the table behind prospective buyers Manchester United.
