Chelsea are determined to beat Manchester United to the signing of AS Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, according to reports in the English media.

The Evening Standard is reporting that the Premier League champions are confident of getting a deal over the line to sign the French defensive midfielder.

The same article states that the Blues aren’t willing to entertain the prospect of losing another summer target to Manchester United ahead of the 2017-18 season.

Romelu Lukaku was thought to be heading back to Stamford Bridge before Manchester United hijacked Chelsea’s deal to sign the 24-year-old centre-forward.

Antonio Conte is desperate to avoid being beaten to another top player in the 2017 summer transfer window as the Blues manager looks to prepare his Chelsea squad for a return to the Champions League next term.

The west London side have signed Manchester City reserve goalkeeper Willy Caballero to replace Asmir Begovic after the number two completed a summer switch to Bournemouth.

Chelsea made Germany defender Antonio Rudiger their second summer signing at the weekend after the English champions agreed a £34m fee with Serie A outfit AS Roma.
