Eden Hazard admits Chelsea legend is his childhood idol
Eden Hazard has revealed that Chelsea legend Didier Drogba was one of his childhood idols
Eden Hazard has named Didier Drogba as his childhood idol and admits he was honoured to have played one season with the Ivorian striker at Chelsea.
Hazard and Drogba both helped Chelsea win the Premier League title in the 2014-15 season as the veteran forward returned to the club for one more campaign.
The Belgian playmaker is widely regarded as one of Europe’s top attacking talents and Hazard says Drogba is one of the best players he has ever lined up with.
Speaking to Chelsea’s website, Hazard said: “I grew up watching Didier Drogba play and he was a huge idol of mine.
“I signed for Chelsea just after he left so I was a little bit sad that I was arriving as he was leaving, but two years later he came back.
“I’m so happy I can tell my kids that I played with him, even if it was just one season.
“He’s a great guy, a great leader and you always learn from the best in football. He was such a big-game player and I still speak to him.”
Hazard faces a race to be fit for the new Premier League season after he suffered a broken ankle while on international duty with Belgium at the end of last season.
The 26-year-old will be hoping to rediscover his top form for the Blues as they bid to retain the Premier League title and also mount a challenge for the Champions League in Antonio Conte’s second campaign in charge at the club.
