Michael Owen has claimed that Liverpool are close to agreeing a deal to sign Naby Keita from RB Leipzig this summer.

The Reds have been heavily linked with a bid to sign the 22-year-old midfielder in recent days as Jurgen Klopp looks to add some further depth to his squad ahead of his second full season in charge at the club.

Liverpool are thought to be ready to make another bid for Keita having so far been unsuccessful in their attempts to sign the midfielder from the German club.

However, former Reds striker Owen feels that the arrival of Keita would be a great boost for the Reds and is tipping the transfer to happen.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Owen said: “They are on the cusp of signing [Naby] Keita, and that could be an amazing signing if that came off.”

Liverpool are preparing for a return to the Champions League next season after the Reds finished fourth under Klopp last term.

The Merseyside outfit will be hoping to mount a challenge for the Premier League title last term as they also look to progress in Europe’s elite club competition.
