John Barnes explains how Jurgen Klopp can improve new Liverpool signing
The Liverpool legend is confident Jurgen Klopp can get the best out of summer signing Mohamed Salah
John Barnes has backed Jurgen Klopp to get the best out of new Liverpool signing Mohamed Salah.
The Reds completed a £39m club-record deal to sign the Egypt international from Serie A giants AS Roma earlier this month.
Salah arrived at the Merseyside outfit fresh from an impressive season in the Italian top flight after a return of 15 goals and 11 assists.
The 25-year-old struggled during his previous stint in the Premier League when Chelsea signed the winger from Basel in 2014.
Salah was eventually sent out on loan to Fiorentina before completing a permanent move to AS Roma.
Former Liverpool midfielder Barnes is backing Klopp to get the best out of the African midfielder in the Premier League next term.
“The Klopp factor is incredible at Liverpool, whereby the fans support him no matter what he does,” Barnes told ESPN.
“If we don’t make another signing, they’ll be happy. Salah didn’t do well at Chelsea, and if he went to another Premier League club, the fans might be disappointed to be signing a Chelsea ‘reject.’
“But because Klopp has signed him, the fans love him. And if the fans love you, you can perform, which he has done in the first three [friendly] games, so he’ll have a big impact on Liverpool.”
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to secure a return to the Champions League.
The Reds have signed three players in the summer transfer window so far following the additions of Salah, Dominic Solanke and Andy Robertson.
The Merseyside outfit are looking to win the Premier League for the first time in their history after finishing in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
