Jurgen Klopp sends message to Chelsea fans about new Liverpool signing
Jurgen Klopp lifts the lid on why Liverpool chose to pursue a deal to sign Mohamed Salah from Roma this summer
Jurgen Klopp has told Chelsea that they failed to give Mohamed Salah a chance to impress at Stamford Bridge.
The Egypt international struggled to hold down a regular spot in the first team at Stamford Bridge before eventually being shipped off to Italian side Roma.
The winger impressed in Serie A and Liverpool were quick to make a move to bring Salah to Anfield as their second signing of the summer this year.
Klopp has revealed that he is a long-term admirer of the winger and says he “ignored” what happened with Salah at Chelsea because he doesn’t feel that he was given enough of a chance at Stamford Bridge.
Klopp is quoted as saying by the Daily Star: “A lot of players have shown it is quite easy to struggle at Chelsea, Kevin De Bruyne is one.
“The only thing that we really ignored was what he (Salah) did at Chelsea.”
He continued: “We played against him when he was at Basel and we didn’t know him. We played with Dortmund against him and it was, ‘What the f**k?’. It was unbelievable.
“The moment I said, ‘Let’s go for him’ he was already at Chelsea. Then he struggled at Chelsea because it was too early.
“He went to Fiorentina and then Roma. He was quick, he played a lot of games, he create goals, chances, he scored by himself. He was involved in pretty much everything for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations.
“He is a left-footed player and we don’t have too many of them in the team. It all makes him really valuable for us.”
Salah became Liverpool’s second signing of the summer last month when the Reds tied up a deal to land him from Roma after the arrival of Dominic Solanke from Chelsea.
The Reds are likely to be keen to bring in some more players this summer as Klopp prepares his team for a return to the Champions League next season.
