Insider gives latest update on Liverpool’s link to top 22-year-old
Naby Keita is unlikely to move to Liverpool this summer, says journalist Tancredi Palmeri
Naby Keita is unlikely to move to Liverpool this summer, according to Tancredi Palmeri.
The Reds have been heavily linked with a bid to sign the 22-year-old Guinea international this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his midfield options at Anfield.
However, the Merseyside outfit have been reportedly struggling to reach an agreement with RB Leipzig for the transfer of the player, with the Reds said to have had a number of bids turned down.
Now, Italian journalist Palmeri is claiming that Liverpool are unlikely to be able to strike a deal with the German club for the midfielder this summer.
Speaking to the Daily Express, Palmeri said: “Dietrich Mateschitz, the Leipzig owner, is having the time of his life. This guy can buy our lives in seconds. Money isn’t an issue.
“Unless Keita misbehaves, unless he sets fire to the Leipzig headquarters, he’s not going to leave. There’s a progression at RB Leipzig that hasn’t hit a ceiling.
“People must realise they have just finished second in the Bundesliga after just being promoted. It’s amazing, it’s like when Nottingham Forest won the European Cup.
“RB Leipzig have won promotion three times in four seasons. In their first year ever in the Bundesliga, they finished second and challenged Bayern Munich. That’s unseen in the history of football.
“Mateschitz is richer than 95 per cent of the owners in football. Before thinking about selling, he will say ‘let me see if i can fulfil their dreams’.”
Liverpool are thought to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as they prepare for a return to the Champions League in Klopp’s second full season in charge at the club.
The Reds finished fourth in the table last season as they secured a return to Europe’s elite club competition.
