Robbie Fowler sends message to Liverpool fans about 25-year-old
Robbie Fowler says Liverpool will have no choice but to consider selling Philippe Coutinho if Barcelona make a huge bid this summer
Robbie Fowler says Liverpool will have no choice but to consider selling Philippe Coutinho should a big-money bid arrive from Barcelona this summer.
Coutinho has been touted as a possible target for the Spanish giants in recent days despite the 25-year-old having signed a new contract with the Reds earlier this year.
Liverpool are rumoured to have already turned down one bid from Barcelona for Coutinho so far this summer.
However, it remains to be seen whether Barcelona could return with a new big-money bid for the Brazilian before the transfer window closes.
But former Liverpool striker Fowler says the Reds would have to consider selling Coutinho if Barcelona table a bid of more than £100m this summer.
Writing in his column for the Daily Mirror, Fowler said: “It ticks all the boxes for Barca in terms of their fans.
“It shows the supporters they are serious about pursuing the next big thing, but is it serious?
“Look, I may be a Liverpool fan, but I know money talks, and Barca could prove me wrong by coming back with an offer of £150million or something crazy.
“If they do, then all bets are off, because believe me, any club in the world would have to consider that sort of money.”
Liverpool are preparing for a return to the Champions League next season after the Reds finished fourth in the top flight last term.
Jurgen Klopp will also be keen to keep hold of his top players as he bids to guide his team to a Premier League title challenge next term.
