Insider delivers latest update on key Liverpool star’s future
Barcelona are expected to make a fresh bid to try and sign Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool this week, according to Kaveh Solhekol
Liverpool are bracing themselves for a new bid from Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho this week, according to Kaveh Solhekol.
The Brazilian’s future has been a source of speculation in recent weeks despite the fact that he only signed a new contract with the Reds back in January.
Sky Sports News reporter Solhekol says Barcelona are still interested in signing the playmaker despite the Reds having turned down a bid from the Spanish club this summer already.
And Solhekol says Barcelona are expected to make an improved offer for Coutinho in the coming days.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on Monday morning, Solhekol said: “We’re expecting Barcelona to make an improved offer for Philippe Coutinho this week. Liverpool have already turned down a £72m bid.
“Jurgen Klopp has spoken to the player and Liverpool say he is not for sale. Coutinho signed a new five-year contract in January and he’s Liverpool’s best-paid player on £150,000 a week.
“Last time Barcelona tried to sign a Liverpool player was of course Luis Suarez. Liverpool refused to sell him in 2013 but he did eventually move a year later.”
Liverpool are currently preparing for their second full season under Jurgen Klopp after the German led the Reds to a fourth-placed finish last term.
The Merseyside outfit are gearing up for a return to the Champions League as they look to compete on four fronts next season.
