Insider delivers latest update on Liverpool’s effort to make fourth signing
Liverpool could still be set to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton this summer, according to Dharmesh Sheth
Liverpool are still keen to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton this summer, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Sky Sports News reporter has revealed that a source close to the Netherlands defender claims that the 26-year-old is likely to end up as a Liverpool player before the start of next season.
Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move to sign Van Dijk for much of the summer and came close to landing him last month.
However, Southampton accused the Reds of making an illegal approach to sign the player, and Liverpool were forced to drop their interest in the defender, as they issued a statement apologising for their conduct.
But it seems that Liverpool could still be in with a chance of landing the highly-rated defender this summer.
Sheth said on Sky Sports News on Wednesday: “What about arrivals at Anfield?
“Could Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk yet make the move to Liverpool? A source close to the player certainly thinks so.
“It must be stressed that Liverpool’s stance hasn’t changed. They apologised for what Southampton described as an unauthorised approach for the Dutchman and then ended their interest in the player.”
Jurgen Klopp will be keen to further bolster his squad this summer as he prepares the Reds for a return to the Champions League next season.
The Reds have so far signed Dominic Solanke, Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson.
