Emile Heskey believes that Liverpool need new signings in three positions this summer.

The Reds have inevitably been linked with a host of stars this summer as Jurgen Klopp prepares his team for a return to the Champions League next season following their fourth-placed finish last term.

The Merseyside outfit have already moved quickly to strengthen their attacking options, bringing in striker Dominic Solanke and winger Mohamed Salah this summer.

However, Liverpool are also thought to be keen to bolster their defence as they prepare for Klopp’s second full campaign in charge at Anfield.

And former England star Heskey has named the positions he thinks that the Reds need to strengthen this summer.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Heskey said: “Do I expect them to buy? Definitely.

“Looking at what they need, they probably need a holding midfielder, a left-back and a centre-back as well.”

Liverpool will be hoping to challenge for the Premier League title next season and also launch an assault on the Champions League as they look to win silverware next season.

Klopp was brought in as the club’s new manager back in October 2015 following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers.
