Virgil van Dijk has told Southampton that he only wants to sign for Liverpool this summer, according to reports in the British media.

The Sun is reporting that the Dutch defender, who has been linked with Liverpool throughout the summer, still has his heart set on a move to Anfield ahead of next season.

The 26-year-old seemed to be close to a move to Anfield last month but the move fell through after Southampton reported Liverpool to the Premier League for an alleged illegal approach.

That forced the Reds to end their interest in the player and issue a public apology for their conduct.

However, the report in the Sun now claims that Van Dijk is still intent on signing for Jurgen Klopp’s side this summer and will even consider handing in a transfer request.

The same report says that Klopp still sees the Dutch defender as the ideal signing this summer as he looks to bolster his rearguard options at Anfield.

It remains to be seen whether Van Dijk’s apparent desire to move to Anfield will secure him a move to Merseyside this summer.
