New Liverpool signing reveals the two players he can’t wait to train with
New Liverpool signing Andy Robertson is relishing the chance to play against Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane in first-team training
Andy Robertson has admitted that he is excited to test himself against Liverpool duo Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane in training.
The Scotland international completed an £8m move to Liverpool from Championship side Hull City on Friday to become the Merseyside outfit’s third summer signing.
Robertson will compete with Liverpool vice-captain James Milner and Spanish full-back Alberto Moreno for a place at left-back in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team.
The 23-year-old scored one goal and made two assists in 33 appearances in the Premier League last season despite the Tigers’ relegation to the Championship.
Robertson was part of the Hull team that secured a shock 2-1 win against Liverpool at the KCOM Stadium back in February.
Asked whether there is one Liverpool player that the new summer signing really admires, Robertson told the club’s website:
“I think the manager bases the team on team spirit and you can see that they’re so close and so together – you can see that by the way they celebrate goals, they do everything together on the park even when things maybe aren’t going well for them.
“So I think as a team, they’ve got so many threats. But of course there’s always going to be talk about your Coutinhos and Manes, the ones who steal the headlines, and I think they’re different class, top class players and I’m relishing playing against these boys in training and with them in games.”
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table in their first full season under Klopp’s management.
The Reds have already signed Egypt international Mohamed Salah in a £36.7m deal from AS Roma and England Under-20 international Dominic Solanke from Premier League champions Chelsea.
