Jurgen Klopp sends message to Liverpool fans about new signing
The Liverpool manager delivers his verdict on summer signing Dominic Solanke after the striker's goal against Crystal Palace
Jurgen Klopp has described signing Dominic Solanke as a “good opportunity.”
The Liverpool boss sanctioned the signing of the England Under-20 international in a free transfer from Premier League champions Chelsea last month.
Solanke linked up with the Liverpool squad earlier this month to start life at Anfield after an eye-catching summer with the national team at the Under-20 World Cup.
The new Liverpool signing won the tournament’s golden ball to follow in the footsteps of Barcelona legend Lionel Messi and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.
Solanke scored on his first appearance for Liverpool after the 20-year-old netted in 2-0 win against Premier League rivals Crystal Palace in their pre-season tour.
The English talent made one senior appearance in the Chelsea side but scored seven times in 25 appearances during a season-long loan at Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem.
Speaking to the media about Solanke’s performance in their pre-season friendly on Wednesday, Liverpool boss Klopp delivered his verdict on the 19-year-old.
“It’s a smart move for him and for us,” Klopp said.
“He saw an opportunity at Liverpool and we see it also. He’s a skilled boy and I am really happy to have him here. We will help him all he can and hopefully in the end everything will be good.”
Liverpool have also signed Egypt international Mohamed Salah in a £36.7m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma.
