Jurgen Klopp sends message to Chelsea, Man United about summer signings
The Liverpool manager urges fans not worry about what Chelsea and Manchester United are doing in the summer transfer window
Jurgen Klopp has urged Liverpool supporters not to worry about what rivals Chelsea and Manchester United are doing in the summer transfer window.
The Reds have endured a mixed summer so far after recruiting two new players but missing out on a couple of targets that would have strengthened the Liverpool team.
The Merseyside outfit were heavily linked with a move to sign Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk but the Reds ended their interest in an embarrassing statement apologising to Southampton.
Liverpool have also been touted with an interest in RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita, but the Bundesliga runners-up have reportedly quoted the Reds £70m to sign the tenacious Guinea international.
The 18-time English champions have so far signed Egypt international Mohamed Salah and England Under-20 international Dominic Solanke ahead of the new seasons.
Liverpool’s title rivals Chelsea and Manchester United have also had mixed success in the transfer market after securing a couple of deals but missing out on other big-name players.
Speaking to the media after Liverpool’s 4-0 win against local rivals Tranmere Rovers in a pre-season fixture, Klopp said:
“We also bought players. Yes and they [Liverpool’s rivals] lost a lot of players.
“I heard Man United lost players, got new players. Don’t know about Chelsea, I’ve not heard a lot.
“If any of our fans think about what the other teams are doing and why we aren’t doing anything, I can’t help, sorry.”
