Insider reveals all the details behind Liverpool’s bid to sign top 22-year-old star
Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol has shed light on Liverpool's pursuit of RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita
Liverpool are facing a battle to sign Naby Keita despite the RB Leipzig midfielder’s desire to move to Anfield, according to Kaveh Solhekol.
The Reds have been heavily linked with a move to sign Guinea international in the summer transfer window as Jurgen Klopp looks to improve his squad ahead of a return to the Champions League.
Keita would help to bolster Klopp’s midfield options and provide Jordan Henderson, Emre Can, Georginio Wijnaldum and Lucas Leiva with competition for a starting spot.
According to reports in the media last week, Liverpool are prepared to spend a club-record fee on the dynamic RB Leipzig midfielder despite coughing up £36.7m on AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah last month.
The Bundesliga runners-up have reiterated their determination to keep the 22-year-old box-to-box midfielder after Keita’s eye-catching debut campaign in Germany’s top-flight division.
Sky Sports News reporter Solhekol has revealed that Liverpool could find it difficult to complete a deal to sign the African midfielder given RB Leizpig’s reluctance to enter into negotiations.
“Liverpool have already signed Mohamed Salah this summer,” Solhekol told Sky Sports News HQ.
“Next, could Naby Keita be coming to Anfield? He wants to swap RB Leipzig for Liverpool but the German club don’t want to sell him. Their sporting director says they will not sell any of their key players.
“Keita has told Leipzig he wants to leave, but they’re under no pressure to sell. He does have a £48m release clause, but it only comes into effect next summer.”
Keita scored eight goals and made seven assists in 31 appearances in the Bundesliga last season after RB Leizpig signed the tenacious midfielder from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg in a £12.75m deal last summer.
