Reporter gives latest update on Liverpool’s bid to sign top 22-year-old star
ESPN FC reporter Gabriele Marcotti says Liverpool are confident Naby Keita wants to move to Anfield this summer
Liverpool are confident RB Leipzig star Naby Keita wants a move to Anfield, according to Gabriele Marcotti.
The Reds have been heavily linked with a move to sign the Guinea international from the Bundesliga runners-up so far this summer.
However, Liverpool have failed to agree terms with RB Leipzig despite offering to club-record sums for the 22-year-old midfielder.
The Merseyside outfit are thought to be considering a third offer worth in the region of £72m for the box-to-box midfielder before the close of the transfer window.
Keita scored eight goals and made seven assists in his first season in the Bundesliga after the African star moved to RB Leipzig in a £12.75m deal from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg last summer.
ESPN FC reporter Marcotti has offered Liverpool encouragement in the race to sign Keita after the respected journalist suggested that even RB Leipzig would have a valuation which would prompt the player’s sale.
“Liverpool believe Keita wants to come. They have an understanding via his intermediaries what his terms would be,” Marcotti told ESPN FC.
“RB Leipzig have said Keita is not for sale. It is a classic situation. It becomes a test of resolve.
“Does Keita force a move? No club wants to keep an unhappy player.
“There is a valuation where RB Leipzig are going to sell no matter what they says.
“They are talking £65m so far. If it goes north of that, who knows?”
Liverpool have signed Mohamed Salah, Dominic Solanke and Andy Robertson in the summer transfer window so far.
The Reds finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to secure a return to the Champions League.
