The Brazil international has emerged as a summer target for the European giants in recent weeks amid growing uncertainty surrounding Neymar’s future at Camp Nou.
Coutinho scored 13 times and made seven assists in the 2016-17 campaign to help Liverpool secure a Champions League spot thanks to a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Barcelona have been regularly linked with the Liverpool number 10 over the past couple of seasons but a move has failed to materialise so far.
Liverpool were forced to apologise to Le Tissier’s former club Southampton earlier this summer for their aggressive pursuit of the Saints’ Netherlands defender Virgil van Dijk.
And in a tweet loaded with irony on Sunday afternoon, Southampton legend Le Tissier had some advice for Liverpool in how to handle Barcelona’s pursuit of Coutinho.
Le Tissier wrote: “Hope Liverpool do the right thing and let Coutinho join Barca so he doesn’t have to go on strike, he deserves a move to a club like that 😉”
Coutinho scored seven goals and made two assists in his final 10 appearances in the Premier League last season to help Liverpool get over the line in the top-four race.
