Liverpool legend ‘100%’ confident Philippe Coutinho will stay
Steve Nicol says he has no doubts that Philippe Coutinho will remain at Liverpool beyond the summer transfer window
Steve Nicol says he is 100 per cent confident that Philippe Coutinho will start the 2017-18 season as a Liverpool player.
The Brazil international has been linked with a potential move to La Liga giants Barcelona in the summer transfer window as a potential replacement for Neymar.
Coutinho has been regularly touted as a target for Barcelona over the past couple of seasons since Luis Suarez swapped Liverpool for the Catalan side.
The 25-year-old scored 13 goals and has made seven assists in the 2016-17 campaign to help Liverpool secure a return to the Champions League.
The South American playmaker netted seven times in Liverpool’s final 10 games to beat bitter rivals Arsenal to a fourth-place finish.
Barcelona have been linked with a £72m offer to sign the Liverpool number 10 over the past week.
However, former Reds defender Nicol doesn’t expect Coutinho to leave Liverpool in the current transfer window.
“I absolutely do. 100 per cent,” Nicol told ESPN FC last week when asked if he thinks Coutinho will stay.
Coutinho moved to Liverpool in a £8.5m deal from La Liga giants Barcelona in the 2013 January transfer window.
The Reds finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season in their first full season under Jurgen Klopp.
