Liverpool and Chelsea are tracking Southampton defender Virgil van Dijlk, according to reports in England
Liverpool could still face competition from Chelsea for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, according to reports in England.
The Sun, as quoted by the Daily Express, is reporting that Liverpool are hoping to seal a deal to sign the Netherlands international in the summer transfer window.
The same article states that Liverpool chiefs are still monitoring Van Dijk, 26, and are eyeing a summer transfer despite officially ending their interest last month.
According to the story, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is still interested in signing another centre-half this summer and is an admirer of the Dutch star.
The Blues signed Germany international Antonio Rudiger in a £32m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma earlier this month to strengthen their defensive options.
Liverpool have finally addressed their left-back problem after Jurgen Klopp signed Scottish defender Andy Robertson in an £8m deal from relegated Hull City last week.
Van Dijk moved to Southampton in a £11m deal from Scottish Premier League champions Celtic back in 2015 when Ronald Koeman was still in charge at St Mary’s.
