Virgil van Dijk will become a Liverpool player before the close of the summer transfer window, according to Kaveh Solhekol

The Netherlands international has been heavily linked with a move to the Merseyside outfit over the past couple of months but a move has failed to materialise so far.

Liverpool were forced to issue a statement last month in which the Reds apologised to Southampton over their pursuit of the 25-year-old centre-half in the summer transfer window.

However, transfer speculation has continued to link Liverpool with a move to bring in the former Celtic defender despite the 18-time English champions officially ending their interest.

Premier League champions Chelsea and Manchester City have also been linked with Van Dijk but both clubs have already made defensive reinforcements this summer.

Sky Sports News reporter Solhekol has taken to Twitter to shed light on Van Dijk’s future as the Saints defender continues to be linked with a move to Anfield.

Solhekol wrote on Twitter: “Source close to Virgil Van Dijk expects him to be Liverpool player by end of window. No suggestion LFC have done anything since apology”

Liverpool have already signed AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah, Chelsea forward Dominic Solanke and Hull City defender Andy Robertson this summer.
