Insider claims Liverpool could sacrifice Coutinho to sign 22-year-old star
Liverpool could sacrifice Philippe Coutinho to complete a deal to sign Naby Keita this summer, according to journalist Gabriele Marcotti
Liverpool may have to sacrifice Philippe Coutinho to fund a move to sign Naby Keita, according to Gabriele Marcotti.
The Reds are rumoured to be keen on the Guinea international despite RB Leipzig’s public reluctance to sell one of their key players in the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old has already been the subject of two offers from Liverpool but the German club have stood firm in their stance that Keita won’t be sold.
The Premier League side are now having to fend off interest from Barcelona in their own prized asset Philippe Coutinho amid talk of a £133m price tag.
Liverpool are thought to be preparing one final offer for the RB Leipzig star in excess of £70m, which would comfortably smash their club record transfer fee.
Speaking to ESPN FC about the possibility of Liverpool signing Keita, football insider Marcotti suggested that Coutinho may have to be sacrificed to get a deal over the line.
“We are talking about a lot of money,” Marcotti said. “The question is whether Liverpool [would] sacrifice Coutinho for Keita.”
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League in Jurgen Klopp’s first full season in charge to secure a return to the Champions League.
The Reds signed seven new players in last summer’s transfer window but have only made three additions in the current transfer market.
