Pundit rules out Liverpool transfer happening this summer
Former Arsenal striker Stewart Robson doesn't expect Emre Can to swap Liverpool for Juventus this summer
Emre Can won’t swap Liverpool for Juventus in the summer transfer window, according to Stewart Robson.
The Germany international’s future at Anfield has been a source of debate given the midfielder’s current contract is set to expire in less than 12 months.
Can played a key role in helping Liverpool to finish in the Premier League’s top four last season after the Reds ended up a point ahead of fifth-placed Arsenal.
The former Bayer Leverkusen star scored crucial goals against Burnley and Middlesbrough at Anfield to help Liverpool secure a return to the Champions League.
However, Can’s contract situation has prompted talk of a potential move to Serie A giants Juventus this summer.
But former Arsenal striker Robson doesn’t expect the 23-year-old to move to Juventus where competition for places is particularly fierce in midfield with the likes of Miralem Pjanic, Sami Khedira, Claudio Marchisio and Mario Lemina.
“Juventus have a lot of good midfield players,” Robson told ESPN FC.
“I’m not sure where Can would fit in. He is a decent player. He is a good player for Liverpool.”
Can moved to Liverpool in a £8.75m deal from Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen in the 2014 summer transfer window under Jurgen Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers.
The Reds have signed AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah, Chelsea teenager Dominic Solanke and Hull City left-back Andy Robertson.
