Liverpool legend sends stern warning to Jurgen Klopp about lack of signings
John Aldridge wants to see Liverpool bring in some new signings before the start of the season
John Aldridge has warned Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp that the Reds are facing a tricky start to the season unless the club complete so more transfer deals.
The Merseyside outfit have only signed three players in the summer transfer window so far despite the prospect of a return to the Champions League this season.
Liverpool snapped up England Under-20 international Dominic Solanke in a free transfer from Premier League champions Chelsea earlier this month.
The Reds spent a club-record fee on former Blues winger Mohamed Salah to bring the Egypt international to Anfield from Serie A giants AS Roma.
The 18-time English champions added Scottish defender Andy Robertson to their squad to bolster their left-back options in an £8m deal from Hull City.
However, Liverpool have struggled to get deals over the line for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk and RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita.
Writing in his Sunday World column, former Liverpool striker Aldridge warned Klopp that more signings are required if the Reds want to avoid a disastrous start to the season.
“Unless Liverpool sign some players in the next month, they are leaving themselves open to a very tricky start to the season, with the Watford game on the opening weekend followed a few days later by the European tie they dare not lose,” Aldridge said.
“Games against Arsenal and Manchester City are coming up in the opening weeks of the campaign and I’m sure Klopp is fully aware that after his experiences last season, he needs to get some top quality players into his squad as soon as possible so they are ready to go from minute one of that first game at Vicarage Road.”
