Robbie Fowler sends message to Liverpool fans about new Man United signing
Robbie Fowler admits Manchester United signing Romelu Lukaku isn't great news for Liverpool supporters
Robbie Fowler admits Romelu Lukaku signed for Manchester United isn’t great news for Liverpool.
The Belgium international appeared to be heading back to Chelsea after being linked with a switch to the Premier League champions throughout the summer transfer window.
However, in an unforeseen twist, Manchester United stole a march on their rivals and agreed a £75m deal with Everton to sign the 24-year-old centre-forward at the weekend.
Lukaku is reported to have passed his medical and will link up with the Manchester United squad in Los Angeles for their pre-season tour of United States.
The Belgian forward finished as the Premier League’s second-highest goal-scorer last season after the powerful Manchester United signing netted 25 times in 36 outings for Everton.
Former Liverpool striker Fowler admits Lukaku will improve the Manchester United team next term, which isn’t good news for Jurgen Klopp and his Reds squad.
“Speaking as Liverpool supporter it’s not great news,” Fowler wrote in his Daily Mirror column.
“For me, all the signs are this will improve United, and if you’re an Everton fan, you’ll see have an improved squad with the chance now to go out and get even more players. That will excite their fans I’m sure.”
Lukaku moved to Everton from Chelsea in a £27m deal in the 2014 summer transfer window after Jose Mourinho failed to guarantee the striker regular first-team football.
Mourinho will work with the Belgium international for the second time at Old Trafford as the Portuguese coach looks to win the club’s first Premier League title since 2013.
