Liverpool could sign 29-year-old playmaker if Philippe Coutinho joins Barcelona – report
Liverpool would consider selling Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona if Ivan Rakitic is included in the deal, according to reports
Liverpool could get Ivan Rakitic if Philippe Coutinho moves to Barcelona this summer, according to reports in Spain.
Spanish outlet Diario Gol, as quoted by the Daily Express, is reporting that Barcelona could use Croatia international Rakitic as a makeweight in a potential deal to sign Coutinho.
The same article states that Barcelona are prepared to offer £80m plus Rakitic in an attempt to get a deal for the Liverpool number 10 over the line.
According the story, Liverpool told Barcelona “months ago” that including Rakitic in the deal could tempt them to consider allowing Coutinho to move to Camp Nou.
Rakitic was a key part of Luis Enrique’s treble-winning side in 2015 but the Barcelona midfielder has struggled to maintain the standards reached in his first season at the Catalan side.
Liverpool star Coutinho played an important role in helping Jurgen Klopp’s side to secure a return to the Champions League after a fourth-place finish last term.
The 25-year-old scored 13 times and made seven assists to help the Reds beat Arsenal to fourth spot in the Premier League table.
